So after years of nipping at human communication heels, has ChatGPT finally caught us in the race? Will people use it to communicate for them, since it does it so effortlessly and instantly? We go beyond the dystopian cry of “Students will cheat!” (as if they haven’t always cheated), and try to wrap some rhetorical theory around the emergence of what might prove to be a new universal spokesperson. Or, perhaps, yet another pretender to the human symbolic throne.
