Hi, I'm Dr. Dan. And I'm the world's most unique coach.
Big claim, right? Well, I like big claims. Like 'em a lot. Gives you something to live up to.
I live up to my big claiming by doing big things. Big things are fun. I recommend them.
My speed list o' bigs --
Emmy-nominated late night comedy writer, from The Late, Late Show (CBS), Dennis Miller (HBO/CNBC), the Best Damn Sports Show Period (FOX Sports). Also headline comedy clubs. And travel the world doing standup on cruise ships (aka, really huge floating buffet boats).
Rhetoric PhD. I do love persuasion. My man Aristotle knew his business. As do many other theorists from 2,500 years ago until today. I definitely coach persuasion. Podcast about persuasion. Write books about persuasion. I want to help good people out-persuade bad people. A passion of mine.
Former professor. Taught many, many courses, at schools like The University of Texas at Austin, and Cal State Fullerton. Screenwriting, TV writing, argument, persuasion, public speaking, speechwriting, etc. Love the education. Still do it, just not for an institution. I'm better as a free rover.
Co-founder of a marketing think tank (500 Rockets), that grew out of marketing agency (500 Rockets.) I love to think, grow solutions, put said solutions into systems, and then convince people to use those systems forevermore. Like a reverse Poe raven.
And, highly, highly entertaining lecturer/speaker. I would still teach college if I didn't have to grade the audience's papers. As it is, I blend comedy club standup into intellectually juicy content. Aka, "Make People Your Puppets: A One-Hour Comedy Show About Persuasion and Why You Shouldn't Make People Your Puppets (Even Though You Can)." Also, "Revenge of the Marriage Counselor's Ex-Husband: How to Keep Your Relationship a Comedy Even When it Wants to Descend into Drama (A Standup Show by a Comedian Who Got Divorced from a Therapist.")
Lots of other stuff along the way. But I think my combo -- rhetoric, comedy, education, intellectualism, podcasting, ethical persuasion, marketing -- I don't think that combo exists anywhere else. Ergo, most unique coach. Although I'll give you that Vince Lombardi was also pretty unique. How do you get your head that square?
(And I'm sure you're unique, too. Challenge me. We could have a unique off. That would be… unique.)
Hit me up. Always looking for interesting clients interested in becoming even more interesting.
Dan
