WCC: Joke Writers Community

IF YOU KNOW ANYONE...

...who loves jokes, loves telling jokes, loves gathering jokes, and definitely loves creating jokes...
...and wants to get much, much better at it...
...so they get way better laughs...
...and even maybe -- say what? -- get PAID for writing jokes...

...then get them (or yourself) into literally the world's best place to meet other joke writers, learn from pro joke writers, and be seen by joke buyers and hirers-- the WCC's Joke Writers Community.

The Joke Writer's Community is a specialist area of the Worldwide Comedy Community, an organization started by Dr. Dan French, that is dedicated to encouraging and supporting all those humans who would rather joke than take life seriously. The WCC has specialist communities for joke writers, standup comics, sketch writers and actors, sitcom writers and actors, and film comedy screenwriters and actors.

The Joke Writers Community (JWC) is for those who want to create the most primary building block of all comedy -- jokes. One-offs. One-liners. Great lines. Retorts. Quips. Dialogue. Story hits. In other words, people who want to punch the punchlines.

The Joke Writers Community meets by zoom Monday nights at 6 pm PST.  Dan talks extensively about both the art of joke writing, and the business of getting paid to write -- as a monologue, rant, or desk piece writer on talk shows, as a bit writer for standups, as a script or speech punch-up specialist (watch scripts jump to life when you get great jokes into your dialogue), as a copywriter, or even a social media writer. In other words, how to get paid to write great jokes.

Dan breaks down major professional writing techniques, dissects jokes, and gives you every insider joke writing technique he's gathered in a 30+ year career as a professional comedy writer.

Members of the community get to throw their own jokes into the ring for peer evaluation and suggestions, and can work on the sample packets and community networking that will make it possible to find actual joke writing work.

And because celebrity always adds sizzle, Dan will have guest speakers that include working standups, pro talk show writers, and real Hollywood showrunners. There is also a monthly joke writer's challenge where the best submission wins a glorious set of gifts and prizes!

There's no comedy training that comes close to the quality level of what you get as a member of the Elite Comedy Writer's Institute. Dan is the world's only Emmy-nominated comedy writer who (weirdly) also has a PhD in Rhetoric. He's an active pro joke writer who has been a staff writer at The Late Late Show, Dennis Miller, The Best Damn Sports Show, and a contract and submission writer for The Late Show with David Letterman, The Wanda Sykes Show, and Lopez Tonight! He's also written for big name standups, including Ron White, Billy Gardell, Rodney Carrington, Jimmy Shubert, and, um, Yakov Smirnov (yeah, that's a story worth hearing).

But Dan's not just a writer, he also knows how to teach. A former professor who has taught Screenwriting, TV Writing, and Persuasion courses at the Univ of Texas at Austin, Cal State Fullerton, and the Univ of Louisville, Dr. Dan keeps sessions fast, fun, and on point. He's also the author of "The 50 Best Jokes I Ever Wrote: An Insider’s Guide to the Art and Business of Professional Joke Writing," which every member of the community gets for free when they sign up.

Membership costs $100 per month, you can attend unlimited sessions, join whenever you like, and quit whenever you like. All sessions are recorded and available to watch if you can't make that week. Working with Dan individually on your writing packet is $50 per submission/evaluation. Easy peezy.

Slots are always available. So pop dan a note at danfrench55@gmail.com, and he'll set you up.

Jump in. Elevate your mirth game. Joke with the pros.
